THE CHURCH’S ROLE IN WESLEY LEARNING CENTER

As a Learning Center based in a United Methodist Church and taking the Wesley  family name of the founders of Methodism, it is important to be as clear as we can about who we are and what we do.  We recognize that a Church-related, values-based program is not necessarily suitable for every family and we therefore want you to know about the ground upon which we stand so that you may make and informed decision.

As United Methodists, we are called to live out the promise of “Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors”.  While we are a Christian church, we embrace and celebrate people of all faiths.  We believe that children are our present and our future, our hope, our  teachers, and the inspiration that reminds us that we are all created in the image of God.  Throughout Scriptures, we are provided teachings on a peaceable kingdom for all God’s people, including our most precious gifts; our children and youth.  They are full participants in the life of the church and in the realm of God.  Therefore, as the Church, we take our responsibiities to children placed in our care very seriously as a true mission of the church. Wesley Learning Center is based on this foundation.

The center embraces a curriculum that is built on what is commonly referred to as “faith-based values” and takes advantage of opportunities for interaction between Church and School.  Children are taught in an atmosphere that is loving, gracious, and underscores the uniqueness of each one as a child of God.  Through the age appropriate activities and to live according to the “Golden Rule”.  This is accomplished through a cooperative effort between Church and School and you will be kept informed of such intereaction.

Our church is committed to providing a place that is safe and protective, but also holy; that is as a place where all people can experience the love of God through its curriculum, but rather respect for the beliefs of all.  Wesley Learning Center is not a place to teach youngsters that “our way” is the correct way, but rather emphasizes an openness to the many paths of the Divine.  Wesley Learning Center does not proselytize and attempt to convert children to the United Methodist tradition, but rather celebrates the diversity of God’s creation.
